This rug was handwoven by the artisans of Aït Tigga.
Aït Tigga, located about 29 km east of Anzal, shares deep familial ties with the women of Anzal’s weaving association. Until 2021, Aït Tigga could only be accessed via an off-road route, which led artisans to rely on the women of Anzal to sell their finished rugs.
This exceptional piece beautifully blends two distinct techniques.
The central border features the Zanafi weaving style, a technique originating in the High Atlas Mountains. Known for its reversible nature, the symbols appear inverted on the opposite side—a testament to the artisans’ remarkable skill and attention to detail.
The four quadrants are crafted using the low hand-knot technique, creating a modern dimensional texture. This combination offers a striking contrast, merging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design in a seamless and stunning way.
